Somewhat Pinteresting

So, a few months ago, I was sucked into Pinterest. I’ve always been hesitant to jump on to the “next big thing”, but Pinterest makes a lot of sense on a lot of levels…The only downside is that it’s a major time suck. Once you begin checking things out, an item click leads to another item click, leading to another, and on and on, round and round you go until suddenly, to your dismay, you’ve lost 3 hours of your life. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Tauntaun sleeping bag as much as the next guy, but I jus gots to watch the time. For a semi-ADHD personality such as mine, Pinterest is an eternal playground of endless jetties, swirling in a billion directions and filling my brain with both useful and useless (do I really need more?) ideas and information. Perhaps an alarm clock would be good…

Shame on me

So, I’ve been inexplicably lacking in updating my site…Mainly because of cataclysmic life changes that have left me reeling from the fountain.

But, I’m gonna try to be more diligent in spouting out random trash on a semi-regular basis…Perhaps it will be therapeutic?

I guess I’m struggling with how much I want to say, who I want to read what I say, and if the truth I speak will come back to haunt me…
In this day and age, with employers patrolling their employees Facebook pages for dirt, the last thing I want to do is give anyone ammunition or printable information that can be misinterpreted or harnessed for my demise!

So, I will use baby steps and tread lightly, cryptically conveying what’s in my noggin…

Rdio is da bomb…

http://www.rdio.com/

So, after much research, deliberation, pining, meditation, prayer, etc, I decided to give Rdio a whirl…

And so far, it rocks…

This is what it does and why it’s sweet:

It’s a streaming music service that can be accessed on your computer and more importantly, via your mobile smart phone. Not only does it have a searchable database of music, it syncs with all of your devices (ie. home computer, laptop, iPhone, etc.) and pulls in all of the music it finds (limited to what is available in the Rdio database, one negative that I will explain later) into your “collection” on your mobile device. This turns your phone into a limitless music resource without requiring all that hard drive “space”, which in my opinion, is awesome…An example of Rdio’s awesomeness is with an artist like David Bowie. So, I have 6 or 7 of his albums, but Rdio gives essentially EVERY David Bowie album. So, it may be missing an album here or there from some artists (that I actually own but is not available on Rdio), but then it offers a shit-ton of stuff from another artist that I didn’t have the luxury of owning prior to Rdio. Do ya feel what I’m puttin’ down? Even w/ a 160 GB iPod, I am still limited to that 160 GB. Also, there is no longer a need to download actual music files, add them to iTunes, hook up your iPod, sync it, etc. Well, at least not nearly as much…

A couple things that I don’t like:

1) The fact that I currently have music that is not available in the Rdio database. With this stuff (and any music I acquire in the future that Rdio doesn’t have), I plan on creating a playlist in iTunes that will include all this “under the Rdio radar” music and sync that w/ my iPod (which will then only contain music I have that is not available via Rdio). Of course, my ultimate hope is that one day, there will be an application/program that will enable me to access ALL recorded music at any time via one device (preferably streamed through the built-in speakers in my jet-pack helmet). I can dream, can’t I?
2) $9.99/mth…But really, $120 a year for this musical freedom is pretty dope!
3) You do need to be on a network of some kind (ie. wireless, 3G, whatever…). I have had a couple instances when I click on an album or track and it “works” for a bit before playing, but this has been rare.
4) Randomly, some artists haven’t inked a deal w/ Rdio for one or more of their albums (or even a track or two from an album), sometimes resulting in incomplete albums. This too is extremely rare and most likely only bothers completist kooks like myself. Not sure why this is, but not a huge deal…I’ll just add that particular album to my “under the Rdio radar” iPod, if I “own” it!
5) Audiophile-wise, it’s not perfect…But neither are MP3s on an iPod, and most people I know don’t have a high-end turntable in their minivan! So, I’ll take acceptable quality and mass quantity over a stack of 180 gram vinyl any day…

I’ll Take The Quad…

Coffee is slowly becoming a necessity in my life. I’ve been a casual drinker over the years. But, now I binge. Like a drunken college student after finals, I binge. It’s kinda freaky…Part of the dilemma is the local coffee hut’s “bottomless” policy. I can pay $2 for one, and then $1 for refills. Or, I can just give it up (pay the $5) and get the bottomless, a caffeinated wormhole from which it’s difficult to “pop back through”. I’m usually OK as long as I remember to choke down a piece of toast or a granola bar in the morning. Otherwise, I get the gut rot followed by nervous sweats and general wackiness…

Eyes Wide Shut

Ya know when your eyes burn? When you’re thinking about something and then forgot it 1 second later? When you stare @ a wall or your shoes endlessly, while drifting in and out of completely random thoughts? I’m there…
Dream-walking through transit, emails, eating, talking…Ugh!
Oh that’s right, I need to eat…I think I’d feel better. Or, it may just jettison me into comatose-walking, which can lead to death, or trouble with the law…
Gonna have to roll the dice…

Yer gonna wanna hear what I have to say…?

Yea! My first “blog” post…This is fairly daunting. I had previously created a personal website, in order to secure an online presence and to have a “place” to showcase my skillz…I was not happy with the results. So, I’m givin’ it another go! It’s in the early construction phase, so check back as I attempt to flesh this puppy out…
